There’s a new program all students can now take, known as The Lions Fitness Challenge. Held on B days in the bubble during the entirety of block three, the LFC promises to promote a healthy style of living for any of its participants.
The program consists of a choice between one of two options presented. The first option allows students to go into the weight room and independently work on individual strength exercises. The other option is to do circuits with a group supervised by Fred Napoli, where students go through activities such as crunches, push-ups, and “step ups,” for approximately a minute each before rotating to a new activity. These varied exercises allow for each student to control their health and body weight.
Napoli, the creator and head of the new program, stated that he thinks the program will be immensely helpful for students with health problems. “I think kids need to be fit and healthy. We have an epidemic of obesity in this country, but I think kids want to be healthy. They just don’t know how.”
Many students who have heard of the idea are similarly enthused. Junior Tristan Sweeney, for example, uses the weight room during this time, and agreed that students would benefit from the program. “I think it’s a good idea, kids don’t utilize the transition period enough. I think that providing kids with a chance to exercise during school is a lot more convenient than trying to make arrangements to go to a gym after school.”
The LFC is shaping up to be a healthy alternative to typical transition activities. If any student is interested in the challenge, head down to the bubble during block three on any B-day, where they will see if they can handle the challenge.
