Viewpoint, the school literary club, will soon release the first of it’s two magazines, titled Counterpoint, which has been tentatively scheduled for release sometime in mid-February. The next magazine, Viewpoint, which lends its name to that of the club, will not be released until late May or early June.
Viewpoint is a club in which young poets, artists, authors, and photographers can come together to hone their craft. Any person, whether they are in the club or not, can submit prose, poetry, artwork, or photography for publication in the magazine. After submission, each member of the club will have their opportunity to edit said piece, without prior knowledge of who the piece’s author is, and anonymously vote on whether it should published.
In previous years, Viewpoint has enjoyed many successes, even winning 1st place prize in the American Scholastic Press Association award for school magazines for it’s 2011-2012 publication, with artist and current co-editor Sydney Forte winning an individual prize for her drawing titled “Hawaiian
Girl.”
Now, as the middle of the year once again approaches, all pieces currently slated for publication will be considered for Counterpoint. Counterpoint is not so much a magazine in of itself, but rather it’s more of a preview for what Viewpoint will offer for it’s main magazine.
Counterpoint, up until the 2011-2012 school year, had been a print magazine, much like Viewpoint. However, starting in the 2012-2013 school year, it has switched its mode of presentation into that of an e-book, an idea met with applause by fans of the magazine.
Counterpoint is free to access, and upon publication, it will be free to enjoy by anyone who wishes to view it, providing a taste of Viewpoint, which will be printed and available for sale for five dollars at the end of the year.
