Through a series of forwarded emails, Middletown North ended up with much more than they bargained for in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Many homes and families were devastated when the storm hit, leaving many students without the supplies necessary to function.
When our very own guidance counselor, Mr. Frick, saw this problem arise, he quickly sprung into action. He promptly sent an email to his friends on the college admissions board. Frick reasoned “You give us free stuff all the other times of the year, do you think you could send some over now?” The colleges responded by sending over large boxes filled with things like pencils, backpacks, and shirts.
However, the magic didn’t stop there. Someone on the college admissions board forwarded his email to the southern admissions board. They sent ever more supplies, leaving the guidance office with an overabundant amount of supply-filled boxes.
The National Honor Society from HammondHigh School in South Carolina also sent over individually packaged backpacks. In addition to this, the students to the time to create home made Christmas cards to be sent to the families affected by the storm.
In this great time of need, it’s always heartwarming to see the cohesiveness of one school to another, as well as the generosity from one human to another. Middletown High School North owes a big “thank you” to all of those who responded in time of crisis.
