The Middletown North boys lacrosse team punched its ticket to the Shore Conference Coaches Cup championship game with an exciting 6-4 victory over Lacey in the semifinal round on Monday afternoon at Middletown North High School.
Leading the charge for the Lions was senior standout Thomas Lorenson, who scored two goals and added an assist in a dominant offensive performance. Lorenson’s leadership and scoring ability helped Middletown North control the pace of the game and secure a spot in Wednesday’s championship matchup against top-seeded Brick Memorial.
Middletown North, the tournament’s second seed, improved to 9-14 on the season with the victory, while Lacey finished the contest at 9-9.
The Lions received balanced scoring throughout the afternoon. Caden Kirk added two goals of his own, while Ryder Kane contributed one goal and two assists. Kieran Metro also found the back of the net for Middletown North. Brendan Costello chipped in with an assist as the Lions’ offense consistently pressured the Lacey defense.
One of the biggest factors in the game came at the faceoff circle, where Lucas Baron dominated possession. Baron won 12 of 14 faceoffs, giving Middletown North a major advantage in time of possession and offensive opportunities.
Defensively, goalkeeper DJ Guerreri came through with eight saves, helping the Lions withstand several Lacey scoring chances in the second half.
Lacey was led offensively by Kyan Smith and Ryan Gleason, who each scored two goals. Luke Miller recorded two assists for the visitors. Despite a strong effort from goalie Adam Olenczuk, who made 16 saves, Lacey could not slow down the Middletown North attack.
The Lions now turn their attention to Wednesday’s Shore Conference Coaches Cup final against Brick Memorial, where Middletown North will look to capture the tournament championship and continue its postseason momentum.
