Middletown, NJ — The Middletown High School North varsity baseball team is off to a competitive start this spring, posting a 5-4 overall record and a 4-3 mark in Shore Conference B North play under Head Coach Ryan McCabe.
The Lions have demonstrated resilience through the opening stretch of the 2025–2026 season, bouncing back from early setbacks to remain firmly in the division race. After dropping their season opener to Raritan High School, Middletown North quickly responded with a 7-3 win in the rematch, setting the tone for a season defined by perseverance.
Among the team’s most impressive performances was a dominant 12-0 shutout over Rahway High School, followed by a strong 14-4 victory against Monmouth Regional High School. Most recently, the Lions showcased their offensive firepower in a commanding 15-5 win over Ocean Township High School.
Offensively, Middletown North has been fueled by a balanced lineup. Junior Danny Sigler leads the way with 8 hits and 7 runs scored, while sophomore Derek Thoms has been a standout at the plate, batting an impressive .571 with 8 hits in limited at-bats. Donovan Murphy has also been a key contributor, tallying 7 hits and 4 RBIs, while MJ Parulis continues to produce with a .500 average and consistent run production. Contributions from players like Liam Sheehan, Louis Romeo, and Seamus Moore have added depth and timely hitting throughout the lineup.
On the mound, the Lions have relied on a mix of experienced arms and emerging talent. Senior Rob Cutolo has been a steady presence, earning two wins while striking out nine batters across 10 innings. Sophomore Justin Kelly has also delivered strong outings, posting a 3.28 ERA with 10 strikeouts. Freshman Evan Mazzolla has emerged as one of the team’s most effective pitchers, recording a 1.75 ERA and demonstrating poise beyond his years.
As a staff, Middletown North pitchers have combined for an impressive 2.19 ERA, helping the team stay competitive in tight contests.
