In a standout performance on New Jersey’s biggest high school wrestling stage, Middletown High School North junior Thomas Blewett claimed the state championship in the 106-pound weight class at the prestigious NJSIAA Wrestling Championships, held at Boardwalk Hall.

Entering the tournament as the No. 2 seed, Blewett put together a dominant run through a highly competitive bracket, culminating in a decisive 10-4 victory over top-seeded Will Cruz in the championship match.

Blewett wasted no time setting the tone for his tournament, pinning Luke Eberhard in just 1:16 during the opening round. He followed that performance with a commanding technical fall victory, 17-1 in 3:17, over Alex Spagnuolo in the pre-quarterfinals.

Continuing his dominant streak, Blewett overwhelmed Steven Vidal in the quarterfinals, securing another technical fall, 15-0, in just 1:16. In the semifinals, he faced a tougher challenge but maintained control, earning a 10-6 decision over Stephen Bogacious to punch his ticket to the finals.

With the championship on the line, Blewett showcased composure, skill, and resilience against Cruz, controlling the match en route to a 10-4 victory and securing his place atop the podium.

Blewett’s state title marks a significant achievement for both the wrestler and the Middletown North program, further solidifying the school’s reputation as a powerhouse in New Jersey high school wrestling.
