As the school year comes to a close, Middletown High School North celebrates its graduating seniors during the much-anticipated Senior Awards Night. This event highlights students who have earned scholarship funds to support their upcoming college expenses for the fall semester. Among the most distinguished financial awards is the Thomas Fette Memorial Scholarship Fund, which honors the memory of Thomas Fette, a beloved 2002 graduate of the school, who tragically lost his life in a car accident on July 30, 2004, in Ashland, Virginia.
Thomas Fette’s legacy at Middletown High School North remains strong, as he was well-known for his passion for the school and his active involvement in various extracurricular activities. These included marching band, student council, track and field, and serving as captain of the varsity football team. Following his graduation, Thomas attended Rutgers University, pursuing a medical degree with aspirations of becoming a doctor.
Though his life was cut short, Thomas’s influence on the Middletown community continues to be felt through the Thomas Fette Memorial Scholarship Fund. Established by the Fette family and Thomas’s closest friends, the fund has been sustained through events like the annual Thomas Fette Golf Outing, which helps provide financial support for Middletown High School North students pursuing higher education.
The first Thomas Fette Golf Outing was held in 2006, and since then, it has grown into a cherished tradition. The event, organized by Thomas’s friends, not only honors his life but also raises funds for the scholarship. It’s a gathering for golfers and non-golfers alike, offering a day of camaraderie and celebration.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the event, which will take place on Friday, July 25, 2025, at Gambler Ridge Golf Course. Matt Inzerillo, one of Thomas’s closest friends and a key organizer of the outing, shared his excitement for the milestone occasion. “It’s going to be a day full of fun!” he said. “The event will feature a scramble golf format with carts, an all-you-can-eat BBQ dinner, refreshments on the course, and prizes for both team performance and individual games of skill. Participants will also receive a commemorative tee shirt and other surprise gifts.”
The Thomas Fette Memorial Scholarship Fund continues to be a testament to Thomas’s enduring spirit, supporting the next generation of Middletown students as they embark on their academic journeys.
