Under the expert guidance of Coach Brock Silvestri and assistant Mara Hussey, the MHSN Girls Track & Field team has had a remarkable indoor season, with standout performances and numerous personal bests across a range of events. As the team heads into the final stretch of the season, it’s clear that their hard work, dedication, and athleticism have been on full display.
Leading the way for the team has been senior Chelsea Baxter, who has set a high bar in the hurdles, long jump, and triple jump. Baxter’s performances have earned her top 10 all-time marks at North in these events, making her one of the standout athletes this season.
The high jumpers have also been a key strength for MHSN, consistently placing well in meets. Senior Ayva Reid, along with teammates Aryanna Fruendt and McKenna Gibson, has been instrumental in these strong finishes. Their efforts have contributed to the team’s overall success this season.
In the pole vault, Olivia Panzino and Cameron Unkel have both etched their names in the North record books with top 10 all-time marks. The duo has shown impressive consistency, building momentum as the season progresses.
The 800-meter run has seen great success for Mia Zawinsy, who has made her mark in the event, securing a place in the top 10 all-time at North. Zawinsy’s strong performances continue to push the team toward new heights as they compete at a high level.
Additionally, the shot put trio of Ava Gonzalez, Lyla Sickler, and Lance McCandless has delivered exceptional performances, also landing in the top 10 all-time marks for North. This well-rounded team is showing its depth across all disciplines, with multiple athletes stepping up and contributing to the team’s success.
As the team looks ahead to the Group 3 State Championships on February 22nd, Reid, Fruendt, and Unkel will be representing MHSN in the high jump and pole vault, aiming to build on an already incredible season. The pressure is high, but with the momentum they’ve built, there’s no doubt these athletes will continue to shine.
As we approach the final phase of the season, the team and coaches would also like to take a moment to honor the four seniors of the 2024-2025 Girls Indoor Track Team, who have shown leadership and dedication throughout the season:
Chelsea Baxter
Lianna Faria
Jaclyn Fealy
McKenna Gibson
Olivia Panzino
Janell Sampson
Lyla Sickler
Their contributions to the team have been invaluable, and they will be missed next season. The future looks bright for these athletes as they look to make their mark on the state level and beyond.
As the season draws to a close, the MHSN Girls Track & Field team remains poised for success, ready to finish strong at the Group 3 State Championships and set the stage for more personal bests and team achievements in the future.
