The Middletown High School North Wrestling team is off to a strong start (13-0) in the 2025 season, racking up an impressive string of wins across multiple meets and tournaments. Under the guidance of a strong coaching staff that includes: Eric Morley, Jody Smith, Matthew Winters, Brady Smith, Hugo Pinto, Matt Sirchio, Brandon Vorrius, Thomas O’Keefe, Jack Zaleski, Justin Persico, Justin Weimer, the Lions have been viewed as a force in the Shore Conference. The Lions have showcased their skill, determination, and teamwork, with a series of dominant performances that have propelled them to the top of the competition.
The team kicked off their season on December 12, 2024 with an overwhelming 71-12 victory against Freehold Township, setting the tone for a successful campaign. The Lions continued their momentum throughout the month, earning several significant wins, including a tight 41-39 victory over Raritan. Later that day, they also triumphed over Ramapo with a dominant 57-22 scoreline, followed by a 59-15 win against Holmdel. These victories were part of a stellar month for the team, capped off by a strong showing at the Mustang Classic and the Mike Dessino Invitational, where they competed against some of the best teams in the state.
January has been no different, with Middletown North continuing their winning ways. The Lions edged out Lacey 35-26 before delivering a stunning 74-6 defeat to Jackson Memorial. A day later, they held off a tough Howell team, winning 36-35 in a nail-biter that highlighted their resilience. The momentum continued as they defeated Middletown South 45-22, followed by commanding wins over Governor Livingston (52-21), Westfield (56-16), and New Providence (64-10). Most recently, the Lions picked up a solid 42-27 victory at Red Bank Catholic and they secured a 39-28 win against Point Pleasant Boro.
The Lions have received stellar performances all season and the Lions hope that success will continue deep into a NJSIAA State Title run.
