The Middletown North Varsity Football Program kicked off their 2024 campaign with much excitement leading up to the game. The Lions field, known as Arnie Truex Stadium in honor of the Lions legendary coach, received a major upgrade to their home field prior to their opening game versus Lacey High School on September 6, 2024.
The Lions had a state of the art turf field installed and the Lions did not disappoint their fans with a 37-7 victory. Middletown North released their ferocious Lion attack from the start, building a 30-point halftime lead in front of the proud MHSN crowd. The Lions, who lost many starters to graduation, saw new quarterback Owen Robson lead Middletown North’s attack with precision and athleticism.

Robson passed for two touchdowns and ran for another for Middletown North after replacing All Shore quarterback Luke Sheehan this season. Robson had a 48-yard TD pass to senior standout Joe Grasso in the first quarter. Matt Belentko continued the scoring with a 10 yard scamper to add to the Lions’ lead.
The Lions poured it on in the second quarter, when Robson added to the Lions 12-0 lead with a QB keeper for a 31-yard touchdown run. Junior Jack Viola kicked a 29-yard field goal and Robson hit Brian O’Donnell with a 10-yard touchdown pass giving the Lions a 30-0 lead.
The Lions continued the scoring in the third quarter with Senior Shane Volante’s 15 yard touchdown run cementing the Lion victory of 37-7. Middletown North’s defense was disciplined and aggressive during the whole game, putting the Lions offense in favorable field position all night.
The Lions will host Matawan High School on September 13, 2024 and look to keep the strong start going. Go Lions!
