MIDDLETOWN, NJ — With 14 strikeouts in both the first and second games of a doubleheader sweep of Jackson Memorial on Thursday, Madilynn Boyce of the Middletown North softball team has set a new career strikeout record for the school.
Boyce, who is in her junior year, has 726 career strikeouts in 367 2/3 innings. In 21 games this season, she has 10 or more strikeouts in 20 of them, including 22 strikeouts in 10 innings in a 1-0 victory over Middletown South on April 22.
Middletown North swept a doubleheader from Jackson Memorial on Thursday by scores of 4-0 and 4-2. Boyce, who allowed three hits in 14 innings in the doubleheader, fanned 14 batters in each game.
For the season, she has 285 strikeouts in 151 1/3 innings with an earned-run average of 0.93.
