The Middletown High School North baseball team has heated up at the right time, with postseason play set to begin. The Lions headed into Tuesday’s matchup against A-North rival Howell looking to keep momentum going.
The Lions have won three out of their last four contests and were hoping Junior Seamus McCabe could keep the train moving. The Lions removed all doubt with a 12-3 victory over the Rebels, giving Middletown North their fourth victory in their last five games.
With many games being rescheduled due to rain, the Lions turned to winning pitcher Seamus McCabe to give the Lions desperately needed innings on the mound. McCabe impressed, allowing three runs — just one earned — in five innings with three strikeouts and one walk.
The Lions saw All Shore Selection Dylan Briggs drive in five runs to lead Middletown North to lead an offensive show. Briggs went 4-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored for Middletown North which improved to 8-9 on the season.
Junior Zachary Hampton was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, Senior Jason Quardt drove in two runs and Aldo Casale stole two bases and scored two runs.
The Lions will head to Red Bank Catholic on Wednesday for the Monmouth County Tournament Semifinal game set to start at 3;45 pm.
