On December 19, 2023, the Middletown North Girls Swim Team won their first meet of the 2023-2024 season. The Lions sported many first place finishes, personal records, while competing in new events to lead Middletown North to their first win against Brick Township High School.
Swimmers such as Keelin Forkan (Junior), Olivia Imbro (Freshman), Juliana Imbro (Sophomore), and Madison DiFranco (Sophomore) took first place in events such as the 200 yard medley relay and 400 yard freestyle relay. Keelin Forkan won the 200 yard freestyle and the 500 yard freestyle. Olivia Imbro won the 100 breaststroke, while Juliana Imbro won the 100 freestyle and the 50 freestyle. The Lions were dominant in the 50 freestyle with Juliana Imbro, Mary Garby (Junior), and Emma Gomez (Sophomore) sweeping the event. Madison DiFranco also placed first overall in the 100 butterfly.
Along with many first place finishes, the Lions achieved many personal records throughout the meet. Natalie Vacca (Junior) and Lisa Racioppi (Junior) had huge time drops in the 100 butterfly. Mary Garby set her best time in the 100 freestyle and the 200 freestyle. Along with Mary Garby, Emma Gomez reduced her time in the 100 freestyle.
Congratulations to both Nina Virani (Sophomore) and Chloe Bixby (Junior) for setting personal record times in the 200 individual medley. Olivia Robinson (Sophomore) swam a new best time in her 100 breaststroke. The Lions also saw some dramatic improvement with Mia Scalice (Sophomore) showing a significant time drop of eighteen seconds in her 500 freestyle.
Another accomplishment swimmers made at this meet was swimming new events. Great job to Olivia Imbro swimming the 100 backstroke for the first time. Giada Santino (Sophomore) swam the 200 freestyle for the first time. Chloe Bixby swam the 500 freestyle for the first time. Amazing accomplishment to Leanna Yeager (Senior) for swimming the 50 butterfly in the relay for the first time! Lastly, congratulations to Julia Fiorello (Sophomore) on swimming in her first meet of the season.
Many swimmers displayed great ability and potential throughout the course of this meet. MIddletown North Girls swim coach, Meghan Ghaffari states, “Looking over the meet sheet, I am in awe of how we scored points in every individual event we were in. The first place finishes were just as important as the fifth place. Not one person came in sixth! You girls really stepped up and couldn’t be more proud!”
The Middletown North Girls Swim Team take on Manasquan for the first meet of the 2024 year on January 3rd. The meet will take place at 2:30pm at our home pool, the Raritan Bay YMCA. Go North!
