The Middletown North Girl’s Tennis team is off to a great start with a beginning record of 3-1. There wins include defeats against Howell (4-1), Toms River South (5-0), and their cross town rival, Middletown South (4-1).
Collectively, the girls have exerted amazing efforts to seal their wins. And individually, singles players and doubles teams have fulfilled their practice times to work on technique and strategy regarding where to place the ball, how to put the ball away, and communication (only in doubles).
The Lady Lions are looking to improve their record as they approach matches this week against Freehold Township, Marlboro, and Shore Regional High School. Head Coach, Christine Kenny, is confident that the girls can exceed expectations.
Kenny says, “I believe that the team is capable of achieving a season of over a 500 record, again. Everyone has a new position, and everyone is fitting into their roles nicely. The improvement from everyone during matches as well as practices is great compared to last year, and I’m excited to see where the rest of the season goes.”
The Girl’s also are approaching the Monmouth County Tournament this upcoming weekend. The seeding has yet to have been released. Kenny is expecting that the girls will perform to the best of their abilities by trying to outsmart their opponents, and figuring out how to put the ball away whether their opponents are at their same level or higher.
