The Middletown North Boys Lacrosse team entered the 2023 season with a great deal of optimism and leadership led by 14 returning seniors to the club. According to Head Coach Jason Pino, this year’s group has had four years of playing together and chemistry which should pay dividends in the highly competitive A-North Division of the Shore Conference.

This year’s team is led by Seniors Abdullah Ali, Thomas Baron, Nick Barry, Jacob Casey-Cabral, Jacob Cerrato, Nick Dressler, Tommy Finnegan, Richie Grabowski, Lachlan Haeger, Ryan Kane, Cole Kroeper, Reece O’Brien, Trevor Reid, Anthony Torregrossa and Vinny Valinotti.

The varsity roster also features Tim Cherney (Junior), Jadin Little (Junior), Gavin Eremus (Junior), Hayden Mattos (Junior), Mike Kelly (Junior), Matt Silva (Junior), Keaghan Gassler (Sophomore), Mario Lorenson (Sophomore), and Damien Shevlin (Sophomore).

The 2023 Lions have a deep senior class that will be depended on for game experience throughout the year.

Coach Pino has also identified that his players have responded well to earning leadership roles and flexibility to make decisions within the game itself.  “Lacrosse is a unique sport in that you have to give your guys control of the offense to be the most successful. There are rules they can follow, but there’s freedom within those rules. So far, this team has done well with that responsibility”.

The Lions are currently 3-2 on the season with victories versus Howell (7-5), St. Joseph By the Sea (13-2) and St. Rose (4-3).  The Lions will look to finish their season strong and make a deep playoff push.
