Lions Senior Wrestlers Close Senior Night With Victories
The Middletown North Varsity Wrestling team had their senior night this past Friday, February 10, to honor the graduating seniors and their hard work these past four years. The Lions started their evening with a winning 48-6 match against St. Rose High School, with seniors Matt Madonna, Collin Oden and Greg Stanley fighting hard against the St. Rose team.
The second match of the night was against Keansburg High School. The North Lions won this match 55-18 thanks to pins from seniors Collin Oden, Christian Cueto, Lucas Ainbinder and Micheal Castelli. The win was a team effort, with other pins by Junior Brady Klinsky, Freshman Nick Wall, and Junior Matthew Castelli. The victory was also secured with the help of a Major Decision win by Junior Anthony Astorino and a win by Technical Fall from Sophomore Jacob Portman.
The Wrestling Senior Night meant a lot to all, but especially to the Senior Wrestlers and their families. Senior Matt Madonna stated, “It was great to see our hard work over these years be honored. All six of us seniors have put a lot into this program and will never forget the memories we made and the hard work we did along the way.”
The seniors have given their very best and full commitment to this team these past four years and will continue to achieve great things throughout the rest of their high school career, as well as college if they wish to pursue it.
The Varsity wrestlers’ next battle will be at Districts this Saturday, February 18. Middletown North will be hosting the District Tournament at home as tradition, and hope to award some North wrestlers as District Champions.
Best of luck to all wrestlers who will be participating this Saturday!
