Lady Lions Softball Looks to Advance to MCT Final

The Middletown High School North Softball team is looking to cap off a Monmouth County Tournament Blue-Semifinal Round victory when they host Freehold Borough at 3:45 PM today.

The Lions have compiled an (8-5 overall, 5-3 division) record to this point of the season, including victories against Howell (twice), Manalapan, Matawan, Long Branch, Freehold Township, Ocean Township and Red Bank Regional.

The Lions have a fairly young team consisting of many freshman and sophomore contributors that include: Grace Gomez (11th • OF), Madilynn Boyce (9th • P, SS), Adrianna Lisotto (9th• C), Allie Cirigliano (10th • OF), Amanda Ellison (10th • 2B, OF), Hailey Keiser (9th • OF, P), Gabby Welton (10th • OF, C).

The Lions future looks bright, but the Lions Seniors are hungry to win right now.  Seniors Mallory Shevlin, Maya Yesalonis, Gabby Carton have been stellar all season and the Lions will depend on their leadership and experience for the remainder of the 2022 campaign.

Mallory Shevlin has been recognized as one of best players in the Shore Conference while leading the Lions both offensively and in the circle.  Shevlin leads the Lions in hits (15), runs (11), home runs (2), runs batted in (13), pitching strikeouts (88) and wins.  One of Shevlin’s best moments came against Freehold Township in the A-North Division battle. During Shevlin’s at bat in the bottom of the sixth inning, she headed to the plate with the bases loaded, two out and the Lions trailing the Patriots, 4-2.  Facing defeat, Shevlin carnked the first pitch of the at bat over the centerfield fence for a grand slam to give the Lions a 6-4 victory over the visiting Patriots.

The Lady Lions will look to advance to the MCT Final with a victory today against Freehold Boro.  If the Lions can earn this victory, they will prove to the Shore Conference that Middletown North Softball does not REBUILD, but RELOAD!
