On Thursday, Feb. 17th, High School North secured the Shore Conference Handchen Cup Championship with a 2-1 victory over St. John Vianney.  The win marked the program’s first conference title since the 2015-16 season.  Colin Delanzo’s team-leading 21st goal of the season in the waning minutes of the third period proved to be the difference in this contest, as the second-seeded Lions upset the top-seeded Lancers.

Delanzo’s marker came less than 90 seconds after the Lancers knotted the game at 1-1 on an Alec Osher goal. It was the only puck to find its way past Lions junior goaltender Luke Chrzan, who steered away 24 of 25 shots faced.  Following a scoreless opening frame, High School North got on the board by way of Andrew Gross’ 10th goal of the season. Gross is also the club’s leading scorer with 34 points on the season.

Junior goaltender Luke Chrzan stopped 24 of 25 shots faced in net during the SCT Championship.

High School North’s championship journey began with an 11-1 opening round victory over Central Regional, followed by a 5-2 triumph over the catholic cooperative program featuring skaters from St. Rose, Red Bank Catholic and Donovan Catholic. The Lions now shift their focus to the Public B State Tournament, where they will host Wall Township on Feb. 25th.
