The Middletown North Boys Basketball Team is looking to build on the success of last year’s 8-7 record during the 2020-21 campaign.  After losing star guard Vinny Pennino to graduation, the Lion’s will lean on returning seniors Tommy Giannone and Matt Kenny to provide leadership and experience.  The Lions closed out last season with a second-place finish in the Pod C bracket of the Shore Conference Playoffs. Last year was a surprise for the Lions who faced a transition in the coaching staff as long time Coach Mike Iasparro stepped away from the program and was replaced by Coach Kevin Spies.  Now with a year under his belt leading the Lions, Coach Spies looks to expand on the late season success.

Middletown North will also look for aggressive senior guard  Lucas Cerbo and junior point guard Mac Colantino to help shoulder some of the load. Senior Zac Searight will move into the starting lineup this year and provides size and playmaking ability.  The Lions also have depth and will utilize the playmaking ability and energy of seniors Brian Haddow and Colin Devine who were All -Division selections during the football season.  Colin Devine is viewed as a real leader and voice of the team. “When you talk about the heart and soul of the team, Colin is it. He’s the loudest guy at practice, always brining energy for us every day, and it translates on the court for us,” Spies added. “He’s not afraid to do the dirty work, and does anything that’s asked of him.” 

Junior Derek Soto and freshman Luke Sheehan will also look to contribute to the Lions success coming off the bench during games. Middletown North will look to be a contender for the Shore Conference Class B North Championship this season and make a deep postseason run.
