Defenseman C.J. Crolius, an A-North All-Division Selection and midfielder Michael “Mac” Colantino’s play will be important to the success of the Lions.

The Middletown North Boys Soccer team is looking to have a stronger campaign after the 2020 season was cut short due to COVID-19 protocols.  The Middletown Township School District decided to cancel the Fall sports season early due to an increase in the number of positive tests of the Coronavirus. This forced the Lions to be removed from the NJSIAA Tournament and preventing the Lions from finishing their 2020 season with a winning record.  The Lions finished their 2020 campaign with a 4-7-1 finishing fourth in the highly competitive Class A North division.

Second year Coach Eric Morley will see his Lions roster return players Chris Jensen (Sr., Midfield), Dom Soares (Sr., Forward), Michael Colantino (Jr., Midfield), C.J. Crolius (Jr., Defense), and Tommy Valinotti (So., Midfield). The Lions will also look for contributions from new players: Sam Calhoun (Sr., Midfield), Andrew Marinelli (Jr., Goalkeeper), Ryan Barnao (Fr., Defense), Nick Dinella (Fr., Midfield), Liam O’Keefe (So., Defense), Matt Silva (So., Midfield), Vinny Valinotti (Jr., Midfield), Anthony Giamanco (So., Forward), Travis Soto (So., Forward), and Matt Kolk (Jr., Midfield).

Junior Mac Colantino will be leaned on this season to get the Lions offense going.

If Middletown North is to going to make noise in either the Shore Conference Tournament or the NJSIAA Tournament, they will need contributions from their younger players.  The Lions roster is very young and many of their players will be getting their first varsity experience this season.   However, the Lions do have some talented impact players returning such as junior C.J. Crolius who was an A-North All-Division Selection at  defender and one of the best defenseman in the Shore Conference. Coach Morley will also depend on junior midfielder Michael “Mac” Colantino to help carry the load for the Lions.

The Lions hope that they can use grit, determination and desire to overcome any lack of experience that this year’s team might have. Middletown North has the ability to surprise many teams and should not be overlooked.
