The Middletown High School North 2020 girls soccer season was not a certainty to even be played due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The Lady Lions are excited that a cancelled season did not happen after all NJSIAA athletics were cancelled during the spring season.  The Lions head into this season, led by Coach Patricia Misciagna whom is entering her ninth season with an overall record of (72-79-5) and a 11-9-1 during the 2019 season.  The Lady Lions are going to lean on the leadership of key returners: Carly Binn (Sr. D), Ashley Dietrich (Sr. F), Ellie Kacen (Sr. G), Allie O’Keefe (Sr. M) and Rett Schnoor (Sr. F).The Lions will also look for some new blood to contribute during the course of this year. The key new newcomers include: Tiffany Brickle (Jr. D), Jordyn Gavini (Jr. D) Madison Marcotte (Fr. F) and Caroline Mascone (Jr. M).  According to Coach Misciagna, “We have a core group of returning players and seniors this year.  I’d like for our team to play together as a team and be successful on the field. We are in a very competitive A-North division and I’d like to win as many of our Division games as possible.”

The Lions have seen freshman Madison Marcotte as their leading goal scorer with 3 goals on the year, while Senior Ashley Dietrich is the top points leader with 5 (2 goals, 3 assists).  The Lions will have a tough task competing in the A-North, however, this program has not backed down from competition.  Some of the returning starters were members of the 2018 NJSIAA State Championship team is arguably one of the greatest teams in school history.  This year’s squad will look forward to pursuing multiple championships now that the NJSIAA has announced that there will be postseason play. “We are very excited that there will be a postseason Sectional State Tournament, and we hope to make it far in the postseason” said Misciagnia.  The Lady Lions have started their season with a 2-3 record heading into tonight’s game versus Middletown High School South.  The Lions have won their last two contests against Howell High School by outscoring their opponents 9-2.  The Lady Lions hope that their recent success will carry over into tonight’s crosstown rivalry for bragging rights in the community.
