Wednesday May 30, the National English Honor Society held its annual induction ceremony.  This year, 23 new students were welcomed into the prestigious program.

The celebration began promptly at 2:30 PM in the Middletown High School North Media Center.  The advisors of the NEHS, Mrs. Goldfarb, Mr. Russoniello, Mrs. McGowan, and Mrs. Stevens, commenced the ceremony with a speech reflecting on the purpose of the program and the privilege of being inducted.

Students sat in a semi-circle and were called up individually to be honored.  As students approached the table, they were first asked to sign their names in the book of inductees.  Next, they placed one hand on Walt Whitman’s poetry compilation Leaves of Grass and shook Mrs. Goldfarb’s hand with the other, after which they received their certificates.  As they continued, they shook Mr. Russoniello’s hand and were presented with a rose. Lastly, the students turned to face the crowd and stated who their favorite authors were and why before proceeding back to their seats.

After all of the students were inducted, the group gathered together to celebrate with cookies and sparkling cider!
