This year, the Heroes and Cool Kids Club has been taking trips to both Thorne and Bayshore for the first time to teach sixth graders about important life lessons.
The first trip was about building resilience, which included having discussions about social media and social skills. On their most recent visit to Thorne and Bayshore, club members spoke with the middle school students about a very serious topic, bullying. This lesson involved conversations centered around cyberbullying, bystanders and what to do in different types of situations.
High school students explained to the younger children that bullying is never okay and that there are things they can do to help others or themselves if they are ever stuck in that type of situation.
Although the Heroes and Cool Kids teach the middle schoolers about very serious topics, they also like to interact with them through playing different games. On their visits, students bring with them a question box, which allows students who may not feel comfortable asking their questions in person to write them down.
The next trip for the club is set for April and will be about building strength and fighting against harmful substances. Members of the Heroes and Cool Kids Club go through a lot of training to be able to successfully teach sixth graders about these topics. They hope to help them with future life situations and any problems they may come across.
