The finest educators demonstrate lifelong learning, cultivate ideal conditions to foster students’ growth, and convey genuine passion for the work, exhibiting steadfast commitment to the pursuit of excellence, which is the standard here at High School North.  Our 2022-2023 Teacher of the Year embodies the aforementioned, and, in doing so, enriches and enlivens the community each day.  

This individual has assumed a leadership role on our Sustainable Jersey Schools team, working alongside colleagues, as well as students, to develop a unique campus space that features a greenhouse, garden, irrigation systems, and a chicken coop.  The lessons that stem from activities in this area are authentic, interdisciplinary, meaningful, and, most importantly, fun, fueling a contagious and commendable enthusiasm for learning.   

In the classroom, this educator connects curricula to the real-world, ensuring that students have a foundation upon which to construct newly-acquired knowledge.  This teacher recognizes the power of engagement, providing learners with platforms to grapple with, and make sense of academic material. This educator understands the value of presenting problem-solving opportunities, promoting collaboration, and encouraging independent thinking.  This teacher supports students with developing arguments, substantiating perspectives, and maintaining strong positions for what they believe in.  

This educator inspires, motivates, and whole-heartedly aspires to not only support students’ success, but ensure that they thrive.  This teacher is supportive, and understanding, yet reinforces accountability, ensuring readiness for lifelong success.  He is a mentor, a coach, and a role model to emulate.
