High School North senior Luke Kratz was notified earlier this week that he was one of just 25 students across the state to earn the prestigious New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association Student Scholarship.
The honor awards $2000 each to these select graduating seniors for continued displays of leadership in their communities or school-related activities.
Approximately 900 districts received the scholarship application, and each district is limited to nominating one student. In addition to a written essay, that student must also submit a resume` indicating leadership positions they have held or currently hold, as well as contributions they have made to their community while serving in these roles.
Kratz was selected for the scholarship because of his continued work with the Middletown Police Department, including his fundraising efforts for Middletown Back the Blue, a passion project he launched in middle school. To date, Kratz has helped raise approximately $8700 for the Middletown Police Deparment’s K9 Unit and Police Explorer Post.
Kratz, who is a sergeant in the Middletown Police Explorers, also serves with the Middletown Drug Alliance’s Project Plus Program, a seven-week after school drug and alcohol prevention program for fifth grade students.
