Casey Bogues Wins Dwight D. Eisenhower Leadership Award
Middletown High School North, once more, has been well-represented by one of its excelling students. Casey Bogues, junior, has received the Dwight D. Eisenhower Leadership Award from the West Point Society of New Jersey. The award, according to the society, is given to high school students who display “exceptional performance and potential in the areas of academics, athletics, community service, good citizenship, and leadership.”
High school students from all across New Jersey, including Bogues, were celebrated in a ceremony at West Point, New York at the United States Military Academy. There, students engaged in leadership activities such as racing to squeeze toothpaste out of a tube and put it back in with a spoon, which enforced the idea that what you say has an effect and cannot be taken back.
Bogues was nominated by Mrs. Finch, her guidance counselor, and was chosen to receive the award after going through the selection committee process.
“Being a leader means making the right decisions,” Bogues told The Lion’s Roar. “Even though sometimes it’s hard and we may not want to.”
It is important for students to learn these valuable lessons so that they too can become leaders in today’s society.
