Each year, the day of the Super Bowl is not only a big deal for football fans who are excited to watch the big game, but also for the companies with commercials that get shown to over 100 million viewers on live television during the game.
The Super Bowl is a huge event for successful advertising, with millions of dollars spent on commercials each year, as well many celebrities used in the ads to make them more entertaining. Even the watchers who are not necessarily football fans get excited to see these high-quality commercials and learn which are their favorites for the year.
According to CBS, who aired this year’s Super Bowl live on television, it costs around $7 million for just one 30-second commercial during the Super Bowl. Here were some 2024 fan favorite commercials as the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers faced off in Super Bowl LVIII:
- One fan-favorite commercial that received a lot of laughs was the Dunkin’ Donuts commercial, with Ben Affleck once again starring this year, just as he did in the Dunkin’ commercial last year. This commercial also stars Matt Damon, who grew up in Boston with Affleck, as well as Tom Brady, who is known for his success on the New England Patriots. Dunkin’ was originally founded in Boston. In the commercial, the three of them create a band called the “Dunkings” and perform in front of JLo, who is married to Ben Affleck. This funny ad was a way to promote a new coffee Dunkin’ is releasing.
- Another popular commercial this Super Bowl containing celebrities was the Uber Eats commercial, starring Jennifer Aniston and many others. The ad played with the joke that to remember one thing, you have to forget something else. As the people in the commercial learn that Uber Eats delivers things other than just food, they start forgetting other events in their lives’. Jennifer Aniston forgets who David Schwimmer is, her co-worker of 10 years from the show Friends. Additionally, Jelly Roll forgets about his face tattoos, Victoria Beckham forgets she was in Spice Girls, Usher forgets about his Super Bowl halftime show performance, and more.
- The State Farm commercial starring Arnold Schwarzenegger was also among one of this year’s Super Bowl commercials that the people had a good laugh at. Schwarzenegger has multiple failed attempts to correctly say State Farm’s tagline “Like a Good Neighbor, State Farm is There” in his Austrian accent as he acts out different scenes. Each time he says “neighbor,” it comes out as “neighbaa.” In the end, Danny Devito has to come to the rescue to say the line correctly.
Each of these three commercials were one minute long, making them about $14 million each to make. While Super Bowl commercials like these are so expensive, they pay off in the end for different companies by creating lots of buzz and spreading awareness of the brands to new people.
