Earlier this month Marvel revealed their new take on the classic superhero Thor, turning Thor into a woman. The character looks absolutely awesome but was this really a necessary change to such an iconic character in the Marvel universe?

To me it was not. Thor is a character that has so much lore within the Marvel universe. Having the character going under such a drastic change maybe unappealing to many long time readers and fans.

I understand why Marvel would like to have a main strong female superhero. The comic company has never been able to create a heroine that matches up with DC’s Wonder Woman. I don’t think taking one of your most loved heroes and changing their sex is a good strategy to obtain this female hero.

I would love to see Marvel create a new female superhero that can match the likes of Wonder Woman but, as a fan, I do not appreciate taking an already established hero and changing them completely.
