We are now midway through the second round of the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs. It’s been a great postseason so far with many surprises and also expected results from the teams in the field.
With eight teams being eliminated in the opening round, we are now down to eight teams vying for the Cup. It’s been an excellent race so far, and it’s going to get even tighter once the teams advance to the Conference Finals.
Currently, the Blackhawks hold a 2-0 series lead over the Minnesota Wild, and have looked very good in their two victories. The other series in the Western Conference features the Anaheim Ducks also holding a 2-0 lead over their opponent, the Calgary Flames. The Ducks have had a great playoff so far, they have been scoring plenty of goals, and have gotten stellar defense and goal-tending.
In the East, the Lightning lead the Montreal Canadiens 2-0 which has surprised many pundits. The Canadiens had very high expectations going into this tournament and now find themselves in a big hole which will be tough to climb out of against a strong Tampa Bay team.
The Washington Capitals hold a 2-1 series lead over the New York Rangers. This has been the most tightly played series out of the four. Goals have been very limited, and it has been a goaltending duel between Braden Holtby and Henrik Lundqvist. If the Rangers don’t start finding the back of the net, they might be out on the golf course earlier than they would have liked.
