Award season went out with a bang last Sunday with the 87th Academy Awards, highlighting some of the best aspects of film this past year had to offer.
Hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, the entire night was filled with funny jokes, minor references, and of course, interviews with famous actors, actress, directors, etc.
Of course, what would an awards show be without some awards? There was a close competition between practically all categories this year. With “Birdman” and “The Grand Budapest Hotel” both tied for the most amount of nominations, audiences around the world hoped that the acclaimed “American Sniper” would win several awards and that the minor, yet engrossing film “Whiplash” would get some more recognition.
Well, “Whiplash” would get that recognition, receiving the awards for “Best Film Editing” and “Best Sound Mixing” at the end of the night. J.K. Simmons would also receive the award for “Best Actor in a Supporting Role” for his role as Terrence Fletcher in “Whiplash” as well.
“American Sniper” received an award for “Best Sound Editing” by the end of the night and the epic space adventure film “Interstellar” would go home with “Best Visual Effects” as well.
“The Grand Budapest Hotel” had an excellent night, going home with four Oscars in categories including “Best Production Design”, “Best Makeup and Hairstyling”, “Best Production Design”, and “Best Original Score”
Eddie Redmayne went home with an Oscar for “Best Actor” for his role playing Stephen Hawking in “The Theory of Everything”, while Julianne Moore went home with “Best Actress” for her role playing a women with early stages of Alzheimer’s diseases in “Still Alice”.
The final award of the night could have gone to any of the eight well-crafted films that had been nominated. However after much debate, and a little joke by actor Sean Penn, who was making the announcement for “Best Picture”, it was finally reveled that “Birdman, or the Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance” had taken home the biggest award of the night.
