As the Middletown North winter sports season comes to an end, the swim team is preparing to end their yearly dive. Each year, they host a senior meet where awards and recognitions are received. The rest of the team present the seniors with flowers and gifts as a send off.
The North Swim Team consists of about forty students coached by the teachers, Ms. Dooley and Mr. Hoblitzell. The senior captains include Mara Haeger, Patrick Pfleger, Michelle Han, Trish Martin, Anastasia Shekter, Andrew Nesci, Jake Nelson, Vin Covelli, Mark Knoll and Brianna Ciampa.
Mara Haeger, a captain of the team, stated “This season has gone pretty well, we had a few of our swimmers do very well at the Monmouth County meet a few weeks ago, and a lot of swimmers on the team have broken personal records over the course of the season.”
The top swimmers of the girl’s team are Anastasia Shekter, Sydney Closs and Alex Heim. While the top swimmers for the boy’s are Mark Knoll, Dimitri Maldonado, Andrew Nesci and John Niederer.
Mara also commented on the atmosphere of the swim team as well, “The thing I enjoy most about the swim team is the atmosphere and the whole team dynamic. We all enjoy the sport and enjoy spending time with each other at practice and meets, so it makes it a really great experience all around. Being involved in any sport, you have to spend a lot of time with the whole team, so it’s nice to be able to have fun with each other even on the bus ride on the way to practice. Everyone is very supportive of each other, even when you’re competing against each other, which is unique and makes being involved with the swim team a great experience.”
