The Golden Globes kicked off award season right last week on January 11, 2015. Hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, the night was full of hilarious acts, serious speeches, and of course, awards given out to many great movies and television shows that have been released within the past year.
Being one of the more relaxed award shows of the season, many actors and actresses had fun with the night. A women dressed up as a female North Korean soldier that announced several things on the stage was just the beginning of the hilarity that would ensue. Jokes were made at George Clooney for the lack of success for his film Monuments Men and actors who had not seen each other for a very long time finally had time to catch up.
However, the night was centered around the presentation of awards to the entertainers that produce some of the highest quality productions of the modern age. Michael Keaton won “Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical” for his role in Birdman, and Julianne Moore won “Best Actress in a Dram” for her role in Still Alice.
After he won “Best Actor” in a television series for his role on the hit Netflix series House of Cards, Kevin Spacey made a hilarious, yet inspiring speech that made the audience very emotional.
The biggest award of the night for film, “Best Drama”, was awards to Boyhood. It director, Richard Linklater, also won best director for the film as well.
The Golden Globes is usually a predictor of what films will win Oscars in this year’s Academy Awards, however with all of the competition in place, who knows who will go home with what come this spring season.
