After a shocking loss to Freehold in the opening week of the season, Middletown North has improved their record to 2-1 and have also gained confidence in the process as the campaign continues.
Following a 40-0 win at Perth Amboy, the Lions came back onto their home turf against the Marlboro Mustangs. Once again heavily favored, but nothing can be taken for granted and a team cannot be overlooked, which is what led North to their week one loss.
Sophomore running back Chad Freshnock continue to be the placeholder for the offense, he carried the ball 13 times for 141 yards, and tallied four touchdowns, three rushing, and one off of a 15-yard pass from Donald Glenn.
Glenn finished the game 8-of-15 for 109 yards and two TD passes, and also ran for a 34-yard score. Jordan Pitts, North’s star wide receiver, caught five passes for 75 yards and a touchdown. The defense also held together nicely in a brilliant effort against Marlboro
This all compiled into a 42-7 trumping over the Mustangs. There is a good atmosphere surrounding the students and the teams as North is looking to make a strong push into the playoffs.
North has a bye this week as they get some well-earned rest, and they get back in action next Thursday at Manalapan with a 6:00 pm kickoff.
