The fall athletic season at North is known for its football and soccer games. The tennis team however does not get as much attention although they are an equal contributor to the athletic diversity of the school.
There are ten girls of the tennis team this year, seven starters and three extras. They play as three singles and two doubles. The first doubles team is senior, Anastasia Shekhter and new freshman, Shannon Teehan. The second doubles team follows a simpler pattern with a returning senior and incoming freshman.
This year they have played nine matches and have yet to win. However individual girls on the team have won their respective games. Their last match was against Manalapan, which the team lost 5-0, and their next match is against Keansburg on Thursday, the 25th of September.
Grace Hill, a junior who has played since her freshman year, spoke about her experience on the tennis team, “We have fun together. The first unofficial rule is to be nice to other girls so the environment is very friendly.”Hill plays 3rd singles, a position she got by playing against the other girls on the team to see their strengths.
The team is lead by the coach and gym teacher, Mr. Bogosian. As well as the team captain, senior, Megan Farrell. It will be interesting to see if the girls can “ace” a win this Thursday and how the rest of the season will turn out.
