This school year holds exciting new experiences not only to the freshman class but to new faculty members as well. Joining the North staff are new administrators, teachers and even a guidance counselor.
Mrs. Gill is the new counselor; taking on Mrs. Rinaldi’s former juniors and seniors as well as incoming sophomores. Her previous guidance position was held at Bolger Middle School in Keansburg. Mrs. Gill decided to come work at North since she has lived in Middletown her whole life and even graduated from North. Her children are starting school in Middletown this year as well.
The transition from a middle school to a high school is a vast one that Mrs. Gill describes as very different and non stop. Working with high school students lets her focus on their futures and what they will do with their lives. With seniors this year, Mrs. Gill plans to start early, meeting her students and making timelines for their applications. She says that the most rewarding part of her job is seeing her students achieve the goals they set for themselves.
Mrs. Gill started her higher education by attended Mount St. Mary for her graduate degree followed by Georgian Court for her Masters. She first started as a special education teacher for six years, where she helped students largely with any issues they may have had, causing her to realize that a guidance counselor was the right job for her.
Mrs. Gill has other interests outside of the school environment as well. Her two favorite T.V. shows are Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal. She enjoys listening to diverse genres of music but her favorite band is Counting Crows. Mrs. Gill’s favorite animal is a giraffe because of their funny faces but she strongly dislikes eagles. The color she likes the most is green. As for food, she loves all things chocolate, as well as pizza.
While the first week has no doubt been hectic for everyone at North, Mrs. Gill has so far enjoyed her time working here. Her fellow faculty members have been doing their best to welcome her. Hopefully, she will feel right at home in no time.
Adjusting to a new work environment can be difficult and stressful but Mrs. Gill has a positive can-do attitude towards getting any job done. This new school year has great potential for this new guidance counselor. It will be interesting to watch what accomplishments will be achieved due to the new addition to North’s guidance department.
