This past Saturday, the Boys track and field team won the central New Jersey Group 3 sectional championship. By winning the outdoor sectional championship, North’s boys running program has won all three sectional championships, Cross Country, Winter Track, and Spring Track. This is the first time in the programs history that the boys won in all three seasons. The Lion runner’s are the only boys team in New Jersey to win all three sectional championships this year.
This season has really been spectacular for the Lions. In the cross country season, the team was led by Tom O’Neil as they went on to win the sectional and group championship. O’Neil went on to run at nationals and placed 33rd overall.
During winter season, the trends continued. Tom O’Neil and Roshaad Redway won titles at sectionals (O’Neil in 1600m and 3200m, Redway in the High Jump). The program also sent the distance medley team to nationals held in New York.
During the spring, more of the same happened with O’Neil and Redway, both repeating their sectional championships. The boys team overall has expanded greatly over the season, the distance and sprinting squads both greatly improved since last season. The jumpers and throwers have also been a big factor in scoring.
The whole team was really sound this year and they are most certainly not done, the boys still have groups, Meet of Champs, and hopefully nationals to run before the season finally comes to a close.
