It was recently released that graduation this year will take place at Monmouth University at 6:30 pm on Thursday June 26th. Seniors are beyond excited to throw their caps in the air and start the next chapter of their lives, whatever and wherever that may be. But there are many mixed feelings about having to attend school for a half day, then go to graduation at night.
The cause of this overlap is the ample amount of snow days Middletown has been faced with this year. Instead of taking away from our (much needed) spring break, the days have been tagged on to the end of the year. The venue was already booked, so the date for graduation couldn’t be changed.
There are definitely perks to this setup, but there have been a lot of concerns as well. Parents are upset because often, families go out to lunch or dinner after the graduation ceremony, but this year it will be ending around 9:00 pm, making it extremely difficult to even go out for ice cream. Some students are also concerned that getting up early, going to school, getting ready for the ceremony, then graduating will cause them to be tired and take away from the experience.
Overall seniors are very excited to graduate in two months, but will miss their North greatly.
