As Jordan Belfort continuously rises higher and higher in the economic world due to his abuse of the stock market, his drug, sex, and thrill addictions continue to rise as well and get out of hand very quickly.
This practically sums up the film “The Wolf of Wall Street” directed by Martin Scorsese and staring Leonardo Dicaprio as the main character Jordan Belfort and Jonah Hill as his partner Donnie Azoff.
Based on the true story of Mr. Belfort, the film follows his rise from working in a small stock operation to a large stock brokering agency which he named “Stratton Oakmont”. Taking advantage of “the average American sucker”, Belfort and his team of brilliant stockbrokers convince thousands of Americans to invest in small, meaningless stocks that have no chance of succeeding in the actual market. Once Belfort succeeding in forcing his customers into buying these worthless stocks, called “Penny Stocks”, he would grant himself 50% of their overall investment, allowing himself, and his company, to become richer everyday.
The acting by both Decaprio and Hill is very well done, each portraying their characters very well and consistently staying believable to their roles throughout the film.
Yet, while the film is beautifully crafted, the excessive use of profanity throughout the course of the movie was a little much and most scenes could have been done without dropping the F bomb in every sentence the characters said.
Even with the profanity and constant cursing, the film tells the true tale of Jordan’s life, which is an interesting story all in its own. Director Martin Scorsese created a true masterpiece of a movie, telling the true tale of a man, his rise to the top of the world, and his slow, but painful downfall.
