Last Saturday, the boys cross country team won their first ever cross country Group Championship the were lead by the stellar performance of Tom O’Neill. O’Neill won the race running 15:26 at the Holmdel course.
The day was historic for the boys who won the first ever group championship in North Cross Country history! At the race the team set a new five man school record the average was 16:28. O’Neill running 15:26 Justin Lippert ran 15:55, Mike Marano 16:44, Mike Sudyka 16:45, and Matt Todaro 17:25. The record that was previous broken was the five man average that the team set the previous weekend at Sectionals.
At Sectionals O’Neill won along with the team and gave the Lions their first sectional victory in twenty-two years. The team has been praised by many of the top schools in the state and seem to be joining Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) as one of the top schools in the state.
This weekend the boys will run at the Meet of Champions. O’Neill is still a favorite to win the race. However, CBA looks to be the heavy favorite to win the meet but North will not give it to their rivals without a fight.
