North 21, South Brunswick 28
The Lions (1-5) came up just a bit short this Friday as they gave South Brunswick (5-2) the defending Central Jersey V champions a run for their money as the Lions took a 7-0 lead early in the 1st quarter on a 68-yard touchdown run by sophomore running back Chad Freshnock who went on to have another 9-yard rushing touchdown later in the game. Also Freshmen quarterback Donald Glenn threw a 57-yard touchdown pass to Junior wide out Jordan Pitts. But South Brunswick was able to fend off the lions 28-21 to improve to 5-2.
This was definitely a moral victory for the Lions who played some of their best football of the season this Friday against a very good football team in South Brunswick. The Lions have had a tough time this year staying in games with good teams this year as they have had the toughest schedule in the shore conference. The Lions look to be playing with a lot more confidence and ¨swagger¨ as some may call it after their blowout victory over Marlboro last weekend. North is showing us what kind of football they are capable of playing and that maybe all they needed was a little confidence.
North will play a big divisional game this Friday night as they take on the Howell Rebels (3-3) who squeaked by 1-5 Freehold Township 21-20 this Friday. The game will be played Friday 7pm at Middletown High School North. Just the Lions 3rd home game this season, a game the Lions really need to win. The Lions playoff hopes are not looking very good right now but with a win this week it could keep their playoff hopes alive.
