With Halloween just around the corner, Dracula is not the only thing sucking the blood out of people. On October 10th, Middletown High School North students participated in a blood drive sponsored by the Key Club.
On the damp, cloudy day, students gathered in the Bubble reading consent forms and preparing to give blood for people in need. Once all the necessary work was completed, students laid down on blue lounges and placed on a tilt waiting to have the blood drawing process begin. After the needle met its mark, student averagely waited ten to fifth teen minutes until the blood donating process was over. Afterwards, students were given sweets and snacks in order to increase their blood sugar levels and give their bodies’ time to restore their body fluid volume to its normal level.
This has been the 7th year in which the Key Club has hosted a blood drive with the help of Central Jersey Blood Center. Mr. Kenneth Sedlak, the adviser to the Key Club, said that the profits made from the blood drive will go to benefit the school community. This includes buying signs for the school, a color printer and providing academic scholarships. In addition, Sedlak also said that the participants in the blood drive have done a good job helping their community. The Key Club sponsors four blood drives a year and greatly thanks the physical education department for their continued support in providing the Bubble to host the events in.
