Gun control has been a major recent debate in the US due to the seemingly sudden outbreak of shootings. While it is a citizen's right to bear arms, the question has become whether or not to limit a citizen's access to weapons, especially regarding those with mental illnesses.
On a larger scale, the US has officially signed a treaty that has sparked debate as it focuses on weapon trade control in general with other nations. The treaty is meant to stop currently violent nations like Syria and the Sudan from getting the means necessary to hurt their people.
However, the debate has come from people's fear that this will infringe on their right to bear arms by allowing the Obama administration to twist it into limiting gun rights.
The treaty has taken seven years for the UN to negotiate in order to gain US approval and even then it needs to be ratified.
It seems that even in the government shut down, the debate for gun and weapon control in the US is still going strong.
