While most eyes we’re on North’s football team during the first football game, another team had it’s first performance that night. North’s marching band, composed of many of North’s musically inclined students, had it’s first performance at the game, given its tandem nature to our football team.
The game was held on Friday, September 20th, at Brick Memorial High School, where the teams were met by groups of rousing fans. North’s fans, however, would be the one’s going home disappointed, at least on the sports front. While North’s football team would have a mediocre performance at this game, losing in a landslide game.
However, the marching band met with more success. Phillip Muratore, the drum major, the leader or conductor of sorts for marching bands, was optimistic about our team. “It was good for our first performance,” said the senior student. “But we can always be better.”
This year’s new Assistant Band Front, Emily Steeber, was also happy with their performance, but also thought the team would need to iron out some kinks throughout the year. “I look forward towards seeing the growth of the band throughout the year,” said the music teacher.
It’s clear, that although the team didn't have a perfect performance, that this squad has a lot potential. There may be some issues, but given the optimism of the students and teachers involved with the program, North’s Orange Wave Marching Band seems set to have another good year. With an upcoming home game, it looks like North’s marching band is set to recapture any fire they may have lost.
