The Lion's Roar met with Ms. Kulcsar in the math hallway, talking with her in the room of the woman she originally filled in for, Mrs. Pastuzyn.
Lion’s Roar: Okay Ms. Kulcsar, first off, where did you grow up?
Stephanie Kulcsar: I grew up in South Amboy, New Jersey. It’s about twenty minutes away from this area.
LR: Did you have any hobbies or interests you’d like to share?
SK: Well, I recently got into jewelry making, about three years ago. I’m actually wearing a few pieces of it right now.
LR: I’m sorry, I meant what did you do when you were a kid?
SK: Oh, sorry about that. Well, I used to work at a roller skating rink in South Amboy. It’s called Roller Magic, and it was the hangout place for high school kids.
LR: Is it still operating today?
SK: Yeah, Roller Magic is still around.
LR: So, back to jewelry making, was that difficult to get into?
SK: Well, the materials were pretty easy to get, I can just buy them at Michaels. It was a learning process, but I’m pretty happy with what I’m making now.
LR: So, where did you get your education?
SK: I went to high school at South Amboy High School, and went to Rider University.
LR: What did you major in at Rider?
SK: Secondary education and math.
LR: What brought you to North?
SK: Actually, it was because of Ms. Pastuzyn. She went on medical leave from November to March, and I filled in for her. They brought me on to work full-time this year.
LR: And why did you get into teaching? Did you have a particular inspiration?
SK: No, I can’t really trace it down to one individual. I’ve always just liked helping people.
LR: Did you always want to be a teacher?
SK: No, when I was a kid I used to want to be a veterinarian. Then I went to the vet once and I didn’t really like the way it went down. It was all very clinical and detached.
LR: Speaking of vets, do you have any pets?
SK: No, I used to have a golden retriever, but right now I don’t have any pets.
LR: Okay Ms. Kulcsar, thank you for the time, and agreeing to do this at the last minute.
SC: Don’t worry, it was my pleasure.
