As the new school year begins, new teachers begin to get comfortable with their classes and settle in. The Lion’s Roar caught up with this year’s newest addition to the musical department, Ms. Emily Steeber in an interview.
LR: Ms. Steeber, where did you grow up?
Emily Steeber: I grew up in Milltown, right over by Brunswick. People always get confused when I tell them Milltown because it sounds so much like ‘Middletown’, but nope, I grew up not to far from here.
LR: What did you do for fun at our age, as a high school student?
E.S.: I was involved in band throughout all of high school and played tennis when I wasn’t playing band. I had a lot of fun with both of those things.
LR: Where did you receive your education?
E.S.: I received my education at Monmouth University and got a Bachelors degree in music education.
LR: What inspired you to become a teacher?
E.S.: Being involved in band throughout high school was basically the main reason I choose to pursue this career.
LR: Did you always want to become a teacher?
E.S.: No, I didn’t realize that I wanted to become a teacher until later in my life. When I was younger, I wanted to be a singer or on Broadway or something along the lines of being a performer. But personally, I really enjoy teaching, its a lot more fun than I ever thought it would be.
LR: How did you end up at North?
E.S.: I student taught here last year with Mrs. Lyon and they decided to hire me to fill in for Mrs. Lyon while she is on maternity leave.
LR: Final question, are you a dog or a cat type of person?
E.S.: Well, I like the portability of cats but the comfort of dogs, so i guess both?
LR: Thank you Ms. Steeber for your time.
