This year Middletown High School North opened up its doors to lacrosse. The girls’ team has been practicing for quite some time and has already played in some games. They have played 3 games so far, 1 of which they won. Coach Garafallo and assistant coach Wiemer have given every player their fair share of play time and have been teaching the girls the rules of the game. The players are psyched to be a part of a new team. One player said her motivation for the year is “the fact that it’s a new team and we want to show other schools that we have potential to be a great program”. Practices are characterized by doing warm ups, while games involve forceful play and motivational tactics. The practices are usually from 3 to 5 while the games are usually later on in the day and only last one hour. One player states, “sometimes I can be held back by the fact that it’s a brand new program and not many people came into the sport knowing how to play, but the coach helps us to learn the rules of the game and how to work both defensively and offensively.” The girls’ goal of the year is to prove to other teams that they are just as good as older ones, and to personally improve. This year has started off with a lot of enthusiasm that will hopefully carry throughout the season.
