In an interesting week in baseball, some teams continue their upward trend while others crash and burn. The Atlanta Braves are off to the best start in baseball at 11-1 coming off a sweep in Washington. Meanwhile, the two stocked up teams from the off season, the Toronto Blue Jays and LA Angles, are 5-7 and 4-8. Many have been surprised by the play of the New York Mets at 7-4 behind 3-0 starter Matt Harvey.
This past week, the Padres played host to the LA Dodgers where a bench clearing brawl erupted. Pitcher Zach Grenkie hit outfielder Carlos Quentin which resulted in Quentin charging the mound. Grenkie broke his collarbone in the scrum and Quentin was given an 8 game suspension. Angels CY ace, Jared Weaver, broke his arm and is out until the all-star break further hurting the Angels.
In the first couple weeks some teams bury themselves too far behind while others start off strong to fall out of it at the break. People are just thankful to have the game back. In another bit of news, Monday is Jackie Robinson day. Everyone will wear number 42; the only active player with the number is Mariano Rivera because he wore it before the number was retired.
