The Future Business Leaders of America Club (FBLA) hosted a badminton tournament to raise funds for their future trip to the New York Stock Exchange, which took place on Thursday, April 11th.
The tournament featured 20 teams, who each paid five dollars for the chance to compete for the prize of a twenty-five dollar gift card to Cluck-U Chicken. While each team battled ferociously, twins Brandon and Andrew Lipari, known as “Team Blackout,” took first place in the tournament, defeating second
place finishers Ryan Bird and Jimmy Coppa to take the title.
The tournament which was organized by FBLA adviser Doug Felegy was deemed a success, as FBLA now has enough funds for their New York trip, which is scheduled to take place on May 31st.
Many students, however, were unable to attend due to additional responsibilities, chiefly from spring sports; an estimated forty teams wished to play in the tournament, but could not attend. In response to this and the first tournament’s success, Mr. Felegy is now planning on an additional tournament, taking place sometime during the first week of June. Spring sports will be at an end and everyone will have a
second chance at the tournament.
“The tournament was a big success,” says Felegy.“Everyone who went had a good time and everyone’s looking forward to the next one.”
While “Blackout” may be our current champions, with another tournament coming up, this is not set in stone. If any student thinks they can take the challenge, make sure to apply for FBLA’s next badminton
tournament.
