This week as part of Mr. Scala’s Sophomore United States History Honors class, students began the process of registering Seniors Students to vote. Many seniors, who have turned 18 years old or were close to it, were able fill in the mail-in registration form in class.
The Voting registration was initiated in participation with the League of Women Voters, a voter’s rights organization that works to promote democracy and a safe society. Barbra Chaudery, a League of Women Voters representative who meets with Mr. Scala’s class, ran the voter registration initiative at North this week. In association with The League of Women Voters annual voter registration drive, Middletown North seniors, were able to quickly and easily register to vote, without getting out of there classroom seats.
The process of voting, essential to the function of a democracy, served as a learning experience; for the sophomores who participated in a truly noble cause, and the seniors who will begin to realize their civic responsibility.
