If anyone has been in the auditorium lately, they would notice the colorful set unfolding in front of their eyes. Even more recently, painted book covers and colorful signs have progressively transformed Middletown North’s auditorium. All of this vibrant madness is leading up to the school’s spring musical, Seussical.
For anyone who is not familiar with this musical, it involves many Dr. Seuss characters like Cat in the Hat and Horton. It is a fun and very entertaining musical that brings the viewers back to their childhood days of reading Dr. Seuss’s classic books.
The cast is loaded with talent, each contributing their own acting style. Cat in the Hat is being played by Mike Gwiazdowski, while the role of Horton has been given to Sam Fox. Other members of the cast include: Juliet Gallagher as Gertrude, Sam Torres as Sour Kangaroo, Nichole Bemko as Mayzie, Derek Carper as Mr. Mayor, Laura Bellini as Mrs. Mayor and Dan Enoch as the Grinch. Among the cast are seniors Sam Torres, Derek Carper, and Laura Bellini. For them, this will be their last show at Middletown High School North.
Along with this year’s talented cast, the teachers and volunteers that are also involved in this production are not only talented but devoted to putting on the best show possible. The role of director is Mrs. Tara Mahoney; Mr. Isherwood directs the music and the musical pit; Costuming is done by E. Stripto; and Mrs. G. Mahoney is in charge of crew and behind the scenes work. This year the band involves a selected group of the school’s band members and Mrs. Lyons herself. Also, there are two hired members that will assist the pit in this year’s musical.
The play will open on Friday, March 15th. The show will only play for two nights, the 15th and 16th. On the 16th, the Drama Club and Dance Team are offering tickets to a huge community event two hours before the show. Tickets are $10 for all and reservations need to be made before March 8th due to limited space. This package includes ticket to the 2:00 performance of Seussical on, a backstage tour, complimentary picture with the Cat in the Hat, crafts, activities and a snack. If you are interested, fill out the form on the bottom of the page and return it to Mrs. G. Mahoney.
We hope to see all of the Middletown North community out to support their fellow classmates in the exciting spring musical. Hope to see you there!
